The European Society of Hypertension (ESH) has decided to establish a new Working Group (WG) on the topic of “Cardiovascular Pharmacotherapy and Adherence”.
This decision is based on the growing evidence that poor adherence to treatment is a major cause of poor blood pressure control. Currently, only a limited number of rigorous trials that study adherence interventions in hypertension are available, although multiple types of interventions addressing nonadherence are available. Furthermore, novel sophisticated tools for detection and improvement of nonadherence to drug therapy are currently under development. This new WG will also address other important issues of current interest to antihypertensive and overall cardiovascular drug treatment. The latter includes, timely task force responses to upcoming results and controversies related to cardiovascular drug safety issues.
ESH members who are interested in joining the new WG are invited to contact ESH and to participate in the first meeting of the WG at the ESH/ISH 2020 Meeting in Glasgow.
