President of the European Society of Hypertension

Prof. A. Heagerty

During the 15th European Meeting on Hypertension, Prof. Anthony Heagerty will complete his term as president of the European Society of Hypertension, and will turn the presidential reins over to Prof. Sverre Kjeldsen. Heagerty took a few minutes at the beginning of this meeting to reflect on the work of the ESH during his term and some of the significant research that also occurred during this time that has impacted clinical practice.

Comments by Prof. Michael Alderman,
President of the International Society of Hypertension

ISH President Alderman: I am delighted to have a chance to say a few words about the ESH meeting, As usual, the ESH meeting has been a lively and exciting opportunity not only to see and hear new science, but to see and visit with old friends, and talk about issues that matter in terms of high blood pressure and cardiovascular disease.

Message from Prof. Giuseppe Mancia, Chairperson of the 15th European Meeting
on Hypertension, held June 17-21, 2005 in Milan, Italy

We’re all very pleased at the success of this meeting. There was a huge attendance of about 6500 participants. Each European country was represented, but also a very high quality representation from all other countries from all over the world.

Comments by Prof. Lars Lindholm,
President-elect of the International Society of Hypertension

ISH President-Elect Lindholm: The ISH and ESH have been sisters for many, many years. The ISH has a focus now on the developing world. There are more than 1 billion people in the world who suffer from high blood pressure and there is quite a job to undertake to promote awareness of hypertension and some sort of treatment.
