Comments by Prof. Michael Alderman,
President of the International Society of Hypertension

ISH President Alderman: I am delighted to have a chance to say a few words about the ESH meeting, As usual, the ESH meeting has been a lively and exciting opportunity not only to see and hear new science, but to see and visit with old friends, and talk about issues that matter in terms of high blood pressure and cardiovascular disease.

From the perspective of the International Society of Hypertension, it’s reassuring to see so many people from so many different parts of the world participating in this program. There are aspects of it that I think are perhaps more specifically related to the European and North American universe. But, happily, here there has been an opportunity to engage in issues that are more relevant to other less developed parts of the world. So, all in all, it has been a wonderful, successful, and very exciting meeting.

It has been an important opportunity as well to remind those from around the world who are interested in high blood pressure that the International Society of Hypertension’s next meeting is in Fukuoka, Japan in October of 2006. I think it is important to make your plans early to be there, get your abstracts in early, and make your travel plans in time. For sure, it will be as exciting and lively an event as the ESH meeting has been.
