Adolescents with prehypertension and hypertension become hypertensive adults
Data from the National Childhood Blood Pressure Database show that adolescents with untreated (drug or lifestyle treatment) hypertension or prehypertension are more likely to become adults with hypertension.  |

A study from Greece found that female sexual dysfunction (FSD) was more prevalent in women with hypertension, compared to women with normal blood pressure, and that age and duration of hypertension were significant predictors of FSD.  |

CONTROL PROJECT Study: Physicians do not change treatment in patients with uncontrolled hypertension—despite high cardiovascular risk.
A study from Spain showed that although two-thirds of the study patients had uncontrolled hypertension plus high or very high cardiovascular risk, 30% of the primary care physicians thought no change to treatment was needed and 65% suggested improving adherence to non-pharmacological changes such as diet and exercise. Only 56% of the physicians scheduled patients for a new control visit within 3 weeks.  |

Racial differences in the development of hypertension and different risk factors being more predictive in men than in women was suggested by the Strong Heart Study, the largest epidemiological study of cardiovascular disease and its risk factors in the American Indian community.  |

The Jackson Heart Study, the largest exclusively African American study, showed that persons involved with or participating in religious activities had significantly lower blood pressure, compared to persons who were not involved.  |

Exaggerated blood pressure variability adversely affects cognitive function in patients 80 years of age and older, according to a study presented at the 21st Annual Scientific Meeting of the American Society of Hypertension, according to a press release from the society.  |

Oral renin Inhibitor provides 24-hour blood pressure control
Aliskiren, the first in a new class of orally active renin inhibitors for the treatment of hypertension, provided effective 24-hour blood pressure control, both alone and in combination with a diuretic, in two separate studies presented at the 21st Annual Scientific Meeting of the American Society of Hypertension, according to a press release from the society.  |
