ESH Annual Meeting 2007

Message from the Chairman of the XVII European Meeting on Hypertension

Prof. G. Mancia

Dear friends, it is a great pleasure for me to extend you a cordial invitation to attend the 17th offi cial Scientific meeting of the European Society of Hypertension (ESH) which will be held in Milan, June 15-19, 2007.

The Scientific programme will continue the tradition of the many ESH meetings which have been held in the past. That is, a large portion of the programme will be devoted to oral and poster presentations which will be selected from the abstracts submitted by the participants, based on the assessment of several expert reviewers per abstract.

The programme will also include state-of-the-art lectures, debates and round tables to complement presentations of original research with views of topics of basic and clinical interest from worldwide authorities in hypertension; Satellite Symposia organised by Drug Industry, which will be held in the days before, after and during (evening) the main meeting allow more specifi c information on new treatments of hypertension and related cardiovascular diseases to be presented and discussed; breakfast meetings and scientific sessions organised by the Working Groups of ESH and presentations, in separate sessions, of the research activities of young European investigators and teaching sessions focused on aspects of more practical interest and on clinical cases aimed more specifi cally at physicians interested in becoming European Hypertension Specialists. Several How-to and Meet-the -Expert sessions aimed at presenting and discussing practical aspects of methods to be used in the initial and subsequent management of hypertension and cardiovascular risk will also be included in the programme, using a format that will allow a limited number of attendees to interact with the expert.

Presidents or Representatives of National Hypertension Societies in Europe will also meet to exchange new ideas on how the programme can effectively interact and stimulate local research in the cardiovascular area.

This will provide, I believe, a full update on current range and level of European research on this vital area of medicine, also including, as always in the past, signifi cant contributions from extra European countries. The programme will be under the responsibility of the Scientific Council of ESH and the meeting will have the patronage of the Italian Society of Hypertension and the University of Milan-Bicocca.

As in 2003 and 2005 the meeting will be held in the Congress Center of the Milan Fair. Those of you who attended these meetings will remember that this was a pleasant experience because the Center has facilities that can optimally accommodate the large number of participants and the highly diversifi ed Scientific programme that characterise the European Hypertension Meeting, including a suitable exhibition space for Drug Industry. Indeed, the facilities have been recently improved, with the addition of several more lecture rooms of different sizes which will suit the multifold needs of large meetings such as the ESH one. The Fair is also well connected with Milan downtown.

As always in the past, the European Society of Hypertension will also provide travel and accommodation grants to help participation of young investigators and investigators who may fi nd covering expenses for participation in the meeting diffi cult.

Lower registration fees have also been planned for the members of the European Society of Hypertension.

Yours sincerely,

Giuseppe Mancia
Chairman of the organising Committee
