Criteria for ESH Endorsement of Hypertension Related Books

Roland E. Schmieder, Stephane Laurent, Krzysztof Narkiewicz, on behalf of the ESH Council

A major goal of the ESH is to disseminate latest information regarding optimal approaches for diagnosis, treatment and management of hypertension. The ESH has therefore great interest to endorse or co-endorse international scientific books related to hypertension and cardiovascular prevention and therapy.

The ESH will endorse books according to the following criteria:

    • The book should be written by National or International highly reputed scientists.
    • The book should have the potential to be spread over whole Europe.
    • As a consequence, the language of the books should be in English to allow the dissemination of the book in Europe.
    • The book should give a systematic review of the current literature on hypertensive-related topics and personal opinions should be minimized.
    • The novelty of the book should be specified in written form, when asking for endorsement by the ESH.
    • The major contents of the book should be in accordance with the 2007 ESH/ESC Guidelines for the management of arterial hypertension. A list of differences between the 2007 ESH/ESC Guidelines and the book (with respect to diagnosis, treatment and management of arterial hypertension) should be provided by the authors.
    • An application will be evaluated by one specifically assigned ESH Council Member that is not involved in the writing group or editing process of the book.
    • The guidelines will be approved by the ESH council.
    • All books endorsed or co-endorsed by the ESH will be displayed on the Society's website.
